Please fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to find out if you qualify for help. Before our priority filing date of March 1, FAFSA forms received by the Department of Education will be given preference.
We have the federal school code 003721. JMU doesn’t consider financial aid when making admissions decisions.

James Madison University Tuition Scholarship
JMU offers more than 400 scholarships to entering students each year, ranging in value and length from one to four years.
The main requirement for merit-based scholarships is superior academic achievement. Leadership, involvement, and career goals may also be considered as selection criteria.
The JMU Foundation scholarships at James Madison University are applied for through the Madison Scholarships Portal. Log into MyMadison to access the Madison Scholarships Hub.

To be eligible for a variety of scholarships, all students are invited to complete the General Application in the Madison Scholarships Portal.
The information from your admissions application as well as the information from the General Application determines your eligibility for the bulk of our scholarships.
If you meet the requirements for any recommended scholarship possibilities you are shown, carefully review the eligibility requirements, and then click apply to provide any extra information that is needed.
To ensure full consideration, submit the General Application as soon as possible. Departmental deadlines differ. Be careful to check back in January, February, and March as some scholarship possibilities start to become available in the fall while others don’t.
James Madison University Tuition Student Employment
Students may apply for student positions as well as wage and part-time jobs that are listed on JMU Joblink.
The Office of Student Employment at JMU has a list of potential off-campus jobs. Of course, students can also look for jobs utilizing other databases and neighborhood newspapers.
James Madison University Tuition Loan
To prove your eligibility, you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The student received a loan from the US Department of Education via their institution. Undergraduates in need of financial assistance may be eligible for discounted loans.
While the student is enrolled at least half-time and at specific times when the government permits deferring repayment, the government pays the interest on the loan.
The student received a loan from the US Department of Education via their institution. Graduate and undergraduate students who have submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Assistance are eligible for an unsubsidized loan regardless of their financial need.
The student has the option of paying the interest while enrolled or upon starting repayment; interest accrual starts right away.
James Madison University Tuition Grant
Gift Aid that is frequently determined by financial need. Grants don’t have to be paid back.
A federal grant is given by the federal government to undergraduate students who show exceptional financial need and have an Expected Family Contribution under a predetermined limit set by the federal government.
Depending on the student’s enrollment status, a prorated Pell Grant award is made. Federal Pell Awards are not subject to repayment or acceptance through MyMadison.
Each year, depending on your FAFSA eligibility, this grant can be renewed, but not automatically.

FSEOG is not subject to repayment or acceptance on MyMadison. Prior to any other student group, undergraduate students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree who have an EFC of $0 will be given awards.
Awards will be given out as long as there are monies left in this account, which is limited.
Students who meet the requirements for a Commonwealth Award are given the JMU Grant in the absence of Commonwealth funding.
When the financing that JMU receives from the Commonwealth of Virginia is insufficient, something happens. Hence, JMU disburses a JMU Grant in place of the Commonwealth Award.
