Target has announced that it would start covering the cost of textbooks and college tuition for its part-time and full-time US workers who attend certain institutions, including two in New England.

The retail behemoth, which has 49 sites in Massachusetts, is following other major US businesses by providing greater incentives to draw and keep talent in a competitive labor market.

Over 340,000 employees of Target’s stores and distribution centers will now be able to select from 250 programs at over 40 schools and universities across the nation, and they won’t have to pay a dime, according to a news release from Target.

Target said that it will devote $200 million over the following four years to the educational initiative. It created the initiative in collaboration with Guild Education, a provider of corporate education support services.

The University of Arizona, Oregon State University, University of Denver, Morehouse College, and Cornell University are a few of the taking part institutions.

3. Select a course of study

Target team members have access to over 250 programs from over 40 schools, colleges, and institutions thanks to a collaboration with Guild Education.

The University of Arizona, Oregon State University, eCornell, and historically Black schools and universities including Morehouse College and Paul Quinn College are a few of these universities.

There are classes available for completing high school, preparing for college, learning English, and for a few certificates, certifications, bootcamps, associate, and undergraduate degrees.

For a few programs, there is 100% tuition support available. Only first-time degree seekers are eligible for the debt-free program.

Target will contribute up to $5,250 for non-degrees master’s and up to $10,000 for master’s degrees for team members who want to continue their education every year.
