Grants are given out according to financial need. There is no obligation to repay. When laws, UCI rules, and budget levels allow it, grants are included in a student’s financial aid package.

The largest federally sponsored grant program, the Federal Pell Grant, offered grants up to a maximum of $6,345 during the 2023–21 school year.

To apply for this award, students must complete the FAFSA.

Students must enroll in 12 units to get the full grant, and at least half-time enrollment is required to obtain the prorated portion (6 or more units).

There is a lifetime cap on the amount of Pell Grant cash that can be received by students, which is the equivalent of six years’ worth of funding.

Undergraduate students with financial needs who are U.S. citizens or qualifying noncitizens are eligible to receive grants through the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG).

The amount given is determined by financial need and financing availability.

The Regents of the University of California and the State of California provide funding for the UCI Grant, which offers grant aid to full-time students who can show a need for it. The amount given is determined by financial need and financing availability.

UCI offers the Regents’ Scholarship, the Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship, and the Directors’ Scholarship to incoming freshmen and transfer students who have demonstrated excellent academic success and leadership potential.

UC Irvine Tuition Loan

Loans are frequently included in financial aid awards. They give participants the chance to borrow when necessary and pay it back later, deferring the cost of their education. However, loan beneficiaries are required to pay interest on the borrowed amount.

The promissory note that each recipient must sign contains the deferment and cancellation clauses for the loans indicated below, and one can get one from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Before accepting a loan, a student has an obligation to comprehend the loan’s terms.

University Loan, which provides long-term loans to undergraduates who are enrolled full-time and who can demonstrate a need for money, is supported by the University of California Regents.

The maximum award for a typical academic year is $1,000.

A 5% annual interest rate begins to build up once the student no longer enrolls at least half-time. Ten years must pass before repayment is complete. Two cosigners are required.

Undergraduate students who are eligible noncitizens or citizens of the United States and who can demonstrate financial need may apply for a William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan that is subsidized.

This loan is processed through the U.S. Department of Education and UCI.

The most a student may borrow is $3,500 for freshmen; $4,500 for sophomores; and $5,500 for juniors and seniors within a given academic year. Before writing the check, the loan amount will be reduced by a loan fee.

The aggregate loan limits, interest rates, and repayment options for unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans are all the same as those of subsidized Federal Direct Loans.

The Federal Work-Study Program gives qualified students who can prove they are in need the chance to cover their living and educational costs as they arise.

Students can lower their loan repayment obligations after they graduate from college by taking part in the federal work-study program.

Students who receive work-study funding may select to work on or off campus at a designated nonprofit organization.

There are many different job prospects and having this kind of part-time work experience can be quite helpful when looking for a job after graduation. Students will get notice of their eligibility for work-study through their UCI Financial Aid award notification.
