George Mason Tuition Financial Aid

Every year you return to Mason, the Financial Aid staff will work with you as you submit a new application for financial aid.
Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and send it to the federal processor by February 1 if you’re interested in applying for financial aid, or March 1 if you’re a transfer student.

George Mason Tuition Grant
Students must fulfill Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements to be eligible for awards. The eligibility and funding conditions determine whether Virginia State Grants are renewed. The award has a maximum term of four years.
Institutional or state grants are not available to students who receive full-tuition scholarships from George Mason.
Grants don’t have to be repaid. Several need-based federal and state grant programs are offered at George Mason University.
Some grants could be canceled or reduced if students don’t keep up a minimum of 12 credit hours (full-time enrollment) each semester. To be eligible for all grants, students must submit a FAFSA for the relevant aid year.
For undergraduates pursuing their first bachelor’s degree, the federal Pell Grant is a prize. Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and enrollment status both affect eligibility.
The US Department of Education determines the maximum grant each year. For complete eligibility, a student must enroll in a minimum of 12 credits every semester; pro-rated amounts apply for less than full-time enrollment.
For six years or its equivalent, students are eligible to earn a Pell Grant.
Undergraduates with exceptional needs—those with the lowest EFC and those who also receive Federal Pell Grants—are eligible for FSEOG.
To qualify for the restricted FSEOG subsidies, students must typically enroll in six credit hours per semester.
FSEOG is not open to students who already hold a bachelor’s degree. The funds are limited and will only be distributed so far. This means that SEOG renewal is not certain.
Virginia Commonwealth Award
A state-funded scholarship program called the Virginia Commonwealth Award helps undergraduate Virginians. To be eligible for the VA Commonwealth Award, you must enroll in a minimum of six credits per semester.
A bachelor’s degree is required in order to qualify for a Virginia Commonwealth Award. With the exception of the Virginia Two-Year College Transfer Grant, students are only permitted to earn one State Grant at a time.
George Mason Tuition Work Study
The Federal Work-Study Program (FWS) is a need-based initiative that offers eligible students part-time employment opportunities to assist in covering the costs of their post-secondary education.
Eligible students are given an allocation based on the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be earned through part-time employment in FWS-approved occupations on or off campus.
The program is created to give students the chance to work in a position that fits their educational schedules. For this program, students must be enrolled at least half-time.
If you want to be taken into consideration for this program, you should specify your preference on the FAFSA. If you aren’t given FWS in your initial award package, you should also get in touch with your financial aid counselor or the FWS Coordinator.
George Mason Tuition Scholarship
Every year, freshmen are given scholarships worth millions of dollars by Mason.
Without taking into account an applicant’s level of financial need, these awards honor not only exceptional talent and accomplishment in the classroom but also unique talents and other personal qualities.
The majority of Mason scholarships do not prorate based on reduced enrollment loads and require full-time enrollment.
The Office of Admissions and the Scholarship Committee will automatically consider all freshmen applicants who submit an Early Action application by November 1 for merit-based awards.
Early Action applicants are informed of their admissions decisions by the middle of December, and students who were given scholarships by the Scholarship Committee are notified no later than February.
George Mason Tuition Loan
Money that you or your parents borrow and must back with interest is called a loan. Low-interest loans for education are available, and the repayment durations are lengthy. Proof of necessity is required for certain loans but not for others.
In order to help students pay for their college educations, the Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans offer low-interest loans.
For parents of dependent undergraduate students, the Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan offers a low-interest loan.
