The primary source for inquiries about financing your education at Penn State is the Office of Student Aid. They distribute loans, grants, work-study opportunities, and scholarships, with loans being the most popular form of funding.

The Office of Student Aid reviews applications for scholarships from every applicant who accepts an offer of admission and completes a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for Penn State.

Penn State Out-of-State Tuition Grant

The U.S. Department of Education provides funding for the Federal Pell Grant, which is given to students who have proven financial need. Grants are not subject to repayment.

The amount of your Pell Grant depends on how many credits you are taking, and it changes proportionally.

Students may receive the Pell Grant for up to 12 full semesters, or the equivalent, starting with the 2012–13 school year.

A federal statute caps the total amount of Federal Pell Grant money that a student may receive in their lifetime at the equivalent of six years’ worth of Pell Grant money.

The six-year equivalent is 600 percent because the highest amount of Pell Grant funding a student can earn each year is equal to 100 percent (150 percent if you enroll in the fall, spring, and summer semesters).

The Office of Student Aid gives the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant to students who can prove they have an important financial need.

Our office offers the TEACH grant, which is federally financed, to qualified candidates who want to teach in public or private elementary or secondary schools that cater to students from low-income households.

The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) distributes the Pennsylvania State Grant, which is funded by the Commonwealth, to Pennsylvania undergraduate residents who have an important financial need.

Penn State Out-of-State Tuition Work Study

For undergraduate and graduate students in need of financial assistance, the federal work-study program offers part-time jobs that enable them to make money to cover educational costs.

The program promotes work relevant to the student’s academic program and community involvement.

If they have offered you work study, you have the chance to build your resume, gain experience, and connect with professionals on campus or in the local area.

Federal Work-Study positions may be located remotely, off-campus, or both, at the employer’s discretion.

When applying for Federal Work Study positions, discuss expectations for on-campus, off-campus, in-person, or remote work arrangements with the prospective employer.

A Federal Work Study award does not guarantee the availability of a job position.
