Tuition and Cost
During the academic year 2022–2023, tuition and fees at UNM will be $8,065 for in-state undergraduate students.
UNM’s tuition and fees for out-of-state undergraduate students will be $24,860 annually. Graduate students in New Mexico will pay $5,742 in tuition and fees per year, while graduate students from other states would spend $18,404.

UNM Tuition Financial Aid
Financial aid and scholarships are only two of the alternatives available to help you pay for education. Grants, loans, and work-study opportunities are among the financial aid options available from UNM. They are both need-and merit-based.
If you want to apply for financial aid, you will have to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

UNM Tuition Scholarship
For the 2021–2022 academic year, The University of New Mexico will offer nearly $80 million in scholarships, with thousands of new students among those who will benefit. Merit-based scholarships have competitive payouts.
A small number of merit-based, competitive scholarships are offered. You must meet the requirements for consideration, be accepted by the application deadline, and submit all required application materials in order to be taken into consideration.
Scholarships are renewable for four years and take your cumulative unweighted GPA into account.
UNM Tuition Grant
Grants are unrequited gifts with no repayment obligations. The University of New Mexico will automatically consider you for federal, state, and university awards after you submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and are accepted.
Except where otherwise specified, grant monies are split into two equal payments for the autumn and spring terms. If you enroll part-time or less, the whole grant award amount may be prorated.
The availability of money, any source-specific eligibility requirements, and your financial need (also known as an expected family contribution, or EFC) are taken into account when determining awards.
Since the majority of our awards have a limited budget, you must submit your FAFSA by the priority date of January 5 and all supporting documents by February 1 in order to be considered.
UNM Tuition Loan
Financial assistance in the form of a loan must be repaid, frequently with interest. While submitting a loan application, it’s crucial to think about repayment.
We advise completing the FAFSA first if you or your parents are interested in any type of loan so that our office can offer you the best loan options.
You have the option to reject all loans included in your financial aid package, reduce the amount accepted, or accept only a portion of them.
The Federal William D. Ford Direct Loan Program is one in which UNM takes part (known as Direct or Stafford Loans). Instead of a bank or other financial institution, the United States Department of Education is the lender.
UNM takes part in the Federal Perkins Loan Program as well. Following the submission of your FAFSA and financial aid application, you may be offered the following types of loans.
When you are enrolled in classes or on deferral, interest is not charged on need-based loans with subsidies. A particular grade level sets the maximum loan payout.
Six months after you graduate, drop below half-time, or withdraw, you must start making payments. Read up on managing your student loan repayment.
In the six months following a student’s graduation or dropping below half-time attendance, subsidized loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2012, but prior to July 1, 2014, are not eligible for subsidized interest benefits.
Financial need is not a factor in unsubsidized loans. Similarly, there is a loan origination fee for subsidized loans. In contrast to a subsidized loan, interest keeps building up while you are attending classes or on deferment.

UNM Tuition Work Study
Working while in college can significantly help you pay for your education. Also, working while you are a student may help you get ready for life after college.
Undergraduate and graduate students who require financial assistance can find employment through work-study awards, which are a type of financial aid.
Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before January 5 for UNM consideration.
On the FAFSA, be sure to check “yes” next to question #31 (Are you interested in work-study). This communicates to our office your desire to be considered for a work-study award.
by February 1st, complete your financial aid application. This means that you must turn in any additional paperwork that has been requested by this date.
If you can prove that you need financial assistance, have your financial aid application in order by February 1 and are otherwise qualified for federal support, you may be offered consideration for a work-study award.
