UConn In-State Tuition Loan

Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans are taken into account when undergraduate applicants for financial help. They might be qualified to apply for a Federal Direct (Parent) PLUS Loan or a Private Education Loan as well.

After a student graduates or quits college, the Federal Direct Loan Program of the U.S. Department of Education offers loans that must be returned with interest.

When students submit the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance, they are evaluated for Federal Direct Loans (FAFSA).

Direct loans with federal subsidies only undergraduate students are eligible for these need-based loans. These are:

  • Students who have proven financial need as determined by the FAFSA are eligible.
  • During periods of at least half-time enrollment and periods of deferment, the government pays interest on Federal Direct Subsidized Loans.
  • After then, the student is in charge of the interest.

Federally unsubsidized direct loans are loans that do not operate on a need basis. These are:

  • Obtainable to all qualified students, regardless of how much personal financial data is included on the FAFSA. As soon as UConn disburses a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, the student is accountable for the interest.
  • Students have the option of paying the interest while they are still enrolled in a class or postponing interest payments until they are no longer enrolled full-time.
  • If a student chooses option two, the interest that develops while they are enrolled in classes will capitalize (i.e. be added to the principal balance) when they begin repayment.

UConn In-State Tuition Grant

Grants are gifts from the government, a state, or an institution of higher learning. In contrast to loans, they are not required to be paid back and are given to students based on need.

For their application to be taken into consideration, students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Institutional Aid Application.

Students seeking their first undergraduate degree and who have a significant need are eligible for federal Pell Awards. Based on the above, the sum awarded is:

  • Family support is to be anticipated (EFC).
  • Admission Fees (as determined by the institution).
  • Enrolment standing of the pupil (eg. Full-time, half-time).
  • In a given semester, students are only allowed to earn one Pell Grant from a single institution.

Each semester, a student’s enrollment (as of the specified enrollment date) and EFC determine how much in actual Federal Pell Grants they are eligible to receive.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG) are only available to qualified full-time undergraduate students with exceptional financial needs (usually Federal Pell Grant recipients).

The FAFSA must be completed and submitted on time or earlier and received by the government processor.

These limited subsidies are given to students pursuing their first undergraduate degree based on their financial needs and the availability of funding.

University Grants may be given to full-time undergraduate students pursuing their first undergraduate degree whose FAFSA was submitted to the federal processor by February 15 or earlier.

If the student doesn’t appeal or if the appeal is denied, the award won’t ever be reinstated.
