URI Tuition Financial Aid

All students, new and returning, must submit the FAFSA application each year to calculate their aid package. Remain calm.

URI Tuition Scholarship

Priority consideration will be given to all first-year applicants for the fall who submit their applications in full by December 1 for all URI scholarship awards.

The selection of courses and high school grades are two factors that determine eligibility. For merit scholarships, candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.2.

Note that we give honors, AP, IB, and dual enrollment courses more weight when calculating GPAs on a 4-point scale utilizing academic courses from grades 9 through 11.

To increase their chances of receiving merit scholarships, students should take on rigorous coursework all through high school.

The scholarship review procedure takes into account letters of recommendation as well as participation in and leadership in the community and at school.

Standardized test results are not necessary, and they are not taken into account during the scholarship review procedure. For scholarship consideration, there is no need to submit a separate application.

URI Tuition Grant

Federally funded grants known as Pell Grants are given to students in need. Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), the cost of tuition, and your enrollment status all factor into how much of a Pell Grant you will receive.

Undergraduates with severe financial need, or those with the lowest expected family contribution, are eligible for Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants. Students who receive Federal Pell Grants are given preference.

Thousands of students receive financial aid from the university through need-based awards such as the Rhode Island Grant, University Grant, and Founders Grant.

Awards are given to students who have proven financial need and have maintained satisfactory academic standing.

If you want to be eligible for these programs, you must submit a FAFSA each year. Based on your FAFSA data, the amount of these grants may change from year to year.

URI Tuition Work Study

You can reduce your college costs by working on campus and/or making extra money while you’re a student. Jobs are paid for with regular university funds or with Federal Work Study obtained through the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

During the academic year, federal work-study offers part-time employment. The positions could be with university divisions, off-campus nonprofits, nonsectarian, nonpolitical organizations, or federal, state, or local public entities.

The most you can make during the academic year is the amount of your Federal Work-Study award.

URI Tuition Loan

To be eligible for these loan programs, you must complete a FAFSA and enroll at least half-time. Prior to the transfer of cash, all of these programs’ borrowers are required to sign a promissory note and take part in entrance counseling*.

The WDF Direct Student Loan Program is an initiative in which the University of Rhode Island partakes. Undergraduate student subsidized and unsubsidized loans are both available through this program.

The University gets money from the U.S. Department of Education directly and distributes it to qualified students. To be eligible for these loans, you must submit a FAFSA for each academic year.

A score of 25 to 30 on the ACT or an SAT score between 1070 and 1278 is required for admission to the University of Rhode Island for half of the applicants.
