Tuition and Cost
The Board of Trustees announced that tuition will rise by 4% and room and board will rise by 4.25% for the 2023-23 school year. This raises the total undergraduate charges for next year from $75,343 to $77,034.
Tuition for graduate programs will also rise by 4%, though some professional programs may see smaller increases, which will be announced on the registrar’s website.
Although Stanford’s tuition increased at an average rate of 3.25% from 2010 to 2023, the Board of Trustees voted to freeze tuition for the 2023-2023 school year in response to the financial burdens placed on students and families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stanford Tuition Financial Aid Statistics
Financial aid is money given to students to help them pay for college. They usually give it based on need or merit.
Need-based aid is determined by your or your family’s showed ability to pay for college, as calculated by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA.
Stanford University’s first-year students received an average need-based scholarship or grant of $62,500. In addition, in fall 2023, 48% of first-year students received need-based financial aid.
Need-based self-help aid includes federal loans and work-study. The average need-based self-help aid awarded to first-year students was $3,500. Stanford University met 100% of its students’ financial aid need.
