CU Boulder Tuition Financial Aid

Over $317 million in federal, state, and institutional aid was given to over 20,300 undergraduate students in 2023–21. They allocated nearly $177 million of the sum as grants, scholarships, and work-study opportunities.

They must pay federal income tax on any scholarships that you get over and above the cost of your tuition, fees, books, and other educationally related goods and equipment.

Scholarships, and grants that should cover living expenses, travel costs, and personal expenses may be subject to income tax. Keep copies of your university bills and receipts.

CU Boulder Tuition Grant

Undergraduate students who meet the requirements can receive grants from CU Boulder as part of their financial assistance package. Grants are unearned funds that don’t need repayment.

For consideration, students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. Grant money is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is restricted in quantity.

Students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant have an EFC of 6,206 or less. The lowest and maximum Pell Grant amounts for 2023–23 are $692 and $6,895 respectively.

Your EFC determines the amount of Pell you are qualified for. While some awards have a set number of recipients and eventually expire, qualified students can apply for the Pell Grant any time of year.

FSEOG is a federal grant available to undergraduate students enrolled at least half-time (6+ credits) who have exceptional financial need. Priority consideration for awards up to $3,000 and a matching institutional grant up to $1,000 goes to students with the lowest EFCs.

CU Boulder Tuition Loan

The University of Colorado uses the William D. Ford Direct Loan program Boulder (Direct or Stafford Loan). Rather than a bank or other financial institution, the U.S. Department of Education serves as the lender.

If they enrolled you at least half-time after filing your FAFSA, you are eligible for a Direct Loan. Note: our office must handle Loans by the day the student has at least six credit hours remaining on their schedule.

Students who are not qualified for federal loans or who require additional funding have access to private student loans or alternative loans. They make the conditions of the banks and other financial institutions through which these loans apply.

CU Boulder Tuition Work Study

Take-study is a type of need-based financial aid that enables students to work a part-time job and make money.

Work-study positions are like typical occupations in that students are only compensated for the hours they work and are required to do personal tasks like schooling outside of work hours.

Work-study positions can be found both on and off-campus and are funded by the federal and state governments. Students must submit a financial aid application in order to be considered for work-study.
