The University of Cincinnati is an Ohio public research university.

It is the oldest institution of higher education in Cincinnati, founded in 1819 as Cincinnati College, and has an annual enrollment of over 44,000 students, making it the second largest university in Ohio.

First-year Applicants

A first-year applicant is a student who enters college directly from high school and/or has never attended a community college or university since high school graduation.

The University of Cincinnati is divided into three campuses that offer various programs. Please do not apply to more than one Cincinnati campus. If you are unsure which campus to attend, please contact the Office of Admissions.

Accelerated College English (ACE) Program

The ACE Program is intended for students who want to study at the University of Cincinnati but whose English skills are insufficient for direct admission.

ACE is a two-semester (one academic year) program that offers English as a Second Language (ESL) courses as well as major-based classes that count toward their UC degree.

Students who successfully complete the ACE Program are guaranteed admission to their chosen major.

Transfer Applicants

Students with a high school diploma or GED who have attended another college or university since receiving their high school diploma and are now applying for admission to a University of Cincinnati degree program.

Other requirements such as CV/Resume, Personal Statement, etc. vary by program. Search by program to view full admissions requirements.

2. Application Fee

3. Unofficial Transcript(s) from all colleges and universities attended

At the time of application UC requires one of two forms of transcript submission:

An upload of your full unofficial transcript documentation showing cumulative GPA that also includes (if applicable) marks sheets, diploma, and translation showing completion of a U.S. four-year bachelor’s degree or the equivalent of a U.S. four-year bachelor’s degree, OR

4. Submission of a document-by-document transcript evaluation by a NACES member

5. Letter(s) of Recommendation

6. Proof of English Language Proficiency (for international applicants)

7. Standardized Test Scores (if required by the program)

8. Optional Video Essay

This video essay is entirely optional and is not required as part of the application process for any program.

We added this video component to provide applicants with the opportunity to demonstrate attributes that may not have been revealed in the other application materials that had been submitted as we moved toward a more holistic admission practice (e.g., GPA, GRE, recommendation letters, etc.).

What GPA do You Need to Get into the University of Cincinnati?

The GPA requirement will vary from program to program. It is generally 2.5 for undergraduates and 3.0 for graduates. Be sure to check the program for criteria and what to do if your GPA is lower than required.

Can I Get into Cincinnati With a 3.0 GPA?

Applicants require very good grades in high school to get into UC. The average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at the University of Cincinnati Main Campus was 3.7 on the 4.0 scale indicating that primarily A- students are accepted and ultimately attend.

The school ranks #10 in Ohio for the highest average GPA.

Can You Get into the University of Cincinnati With a 2.5 GPA?

Students are expected to maintain a 2.0 GPA while enrolled. Students accepted into the program must meet the academic standards of the program (2.5 GPA) to advance to upper levels of study.
