About the University

Old Dominion Institution (ODU) is a public research university in Norfolk, Virginia. They found it in 1930 as the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary and is currently one of Virginia’s largest institutions, with 24,286 students enrolled for the 2023 academic year.

ODU spent $60.3 million on research and development in 2018, according to the National Science Foundation. It has an annual economic impact of roughly $2 billion on the regional economy. 

The university has over 24,000 students and provides 168 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. It is also one of the nation’s largest suppliers of distant learning to train.

ODU Admissions Office Acceptance Rate

Admission at Old Dominion University is less selective, with a 96% acceptance rate and a 92.5% early acceptance rate. Half of those admitted to Old Dominion had a SAT score of 1020 to 1220 or an ACT score of 20 to 27.

However, one-fourth of admitted applicants received scores that were higher than these ranges, while the other quarter received scores that were lower.

ODU welcomes students with GPAs as low as 3.34. It’s fine to be a B-average student with a few A’s thrown in. Avoid C’s and D’s since application readers may wonder if you can withstand the stress of college academics.

SAT Requirements for ODU Admissions Office

ODU’s average SAT composite score is 1098 on a 1600 SAT scale. With this number, ODU is competitive for SAT test scores.

The New SAT score in the 25th percentile is 990, and the New SAT score in the 75th percentile is 1200. A 990 on the New SAT puts you below average, whereas a 1200 puts you above average.

ACT Requirements for ODU Admissions Office

ODU’s average ACT score is 22. This score places ODU in the Moderately Competitive category for ACT scores.

The ACT score at the 25th percentile is 18, and the ACT score at the 75th percentile is 24.

Where Do I Send Transcripts to ODU?

I should forward transcripts to admissions@odu.edu if you use an electronic transcript service.

If you want to ship credentials* to our office, each set of official transcripts must be kept in its original sealed envelope before being packaged in a new, larger box and delivered to ODU.

How Long Does It Take to Get an Acceptance Letter From ODU?
