Undergraduate students only are eligible for Federal Direct Subsidized Loans. Financial necessity, annual and total loan restrictions, and eligibility are all taken into consideration. During times of enrollment that qualify, they charge no interest on this loan.
When a student graduates or stops enrolled at least half-time, interest will accrue (6 hours). After a student graduates or ceases to be enrolled at least half-time, repayment will start six months later.
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans are not need-based; instead, they are determined by yearly and cumulative loan restrictions. Both undergraduate and graduate/professional students who are pursuing degrees may apply for this loan.
At distribution, interest on this debt accumulates. After graduation or when a student is no longer enrolled at least half-time, repayment starts six months later (6 hours for Undergraduates, 5 hours for Graduates).
