The Expected Family Commitment (EFC), which Northwestern bases on data from two forms—the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)—determines your family’s financial contribution to college costs.

Your wages and savings, parental income, nonretirement assets, taxes paid, family size, the number of family members attending college, the cost of private K–12 schools, nondiscretionary expenses, and other unique circumstances are all considered when determining the EFC.
