About The University of Maryland

In College Park, Maryland, there is a public land-grant research university called the University of Maryland, College Park. However, the flagship institution of the University System of Maryland, UMD, was founded in 1856.

With over 41,000 students from 123 different countries and all fifty states and the Washington metropolitan area, it is also the biggest institution in the state. Additionally, it has a global alumni network of over 388,000 people. 

Therefore, over 200 degree-granting programs, including 92 undergraduate majors, 107 master’s degrees, and the institution’s 12 schools and colleges taken as a whole, offered 83 doctorate programs

Freshman Applicant Requirements

You should submit a freshman application if you are a high school student or a student with less than 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of college-level credit.

Also, to get priority consideration for admission to the institution, merit-based scholarships. Also, with an invitation to special programs, you are strongly advised to apply to the early action deadline.

Transfer Applicant Requirements

Applying as a transfer applicant requires high school graduates who have taken at least 12 semester hours. Also, 18 quarter hours at a regionally accredited college or university following high school graduation (or after completing high school equivalency).

Credits earned through placement exams for Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs cannot be used for this criterion. 

Prior to submitting an application, they advise students who are still enrolled in 12 college credits to email us at ApplyMaryland@umd.edu.

International Applicant Requirements

Non-citizens and temporary residents of the United States should submit an international application.

1. The admissions committee will consider the following criteria for all overseas applicants besides the prerequisites for freshman or transfer admission:

5. If English is not your native language-regardless of your citizenship-you must provide the university with verification of your proficiency in English.

6. Your English language proficiency test scores, which must be less than two years old, must be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions directly from the testing agency.

7. We will not consider your application complete until we have received your official English proficiency test scores.

Is it Hard to get into the University of Maryland?

The University of Maryland, College Park’s admissions process is the most stringent. Therefore, with a 49% acceptance rate and a 59.3% early acceptance rate. 

Therefore, most candidates accepted to the University of Maryland had ACT or SAT. However, scores between 29 and 34, or between 1270 and 1480 on the SAT.

A 1460 SAT or an ACT score of at least 33 will almost certainly get you accepted. Therefore, being significantly above average raises the admission rate for you to nearly 100% because the school accepts 44.1% of all applicants. 

Therefore, the rest of your application essentially doesn’t matter if you can get a good SAT/ACT score.

Can I get into UMD with a 3.5 GPA?
