Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute admissions are more selective, with a 53% acceptance rate and a 65.2% early acceptance rate. Half of RPI’s admitted students have a SAT score between 1360 and 1520 or an ACT score between 32 and 34.

GPA Requirements for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Admissions
RPI expects you to be at the top of your class with a GPA of 3.91. To compete with other applicants, you’ll need nearly straight A’s in all of your classes.
You should take difficult classes – AP or IB courses – to show that college-level academics are simple.
If you are a junior or senior, it is difficult to change your GPA in time for college applications. If your GPA is at or below the school average of 3.91, you’ll need to improve your SAT or ACT score. This will allow you to compete effectively against applicants with higher GPAs than you.

RPI’s average SAT composite score is 1409 on a 1600 SAT scale. This score places RPI in a strong competitive position for SAT test scores.
The New SAT 25th percentile score is 1330, and the New SAT 75th percentile score is 1500. A 1330 on the New SAT puts you below average, whereas a 1500 puts you above average.
ACT Requirements for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Admissions
RPI’s average ACT score is 31. This score places RPI in a strong competitive position for ACT scores. The ACT score for the 25th percentile is 29, and the ACT score for the 75th percentile is 33.
Even if RPI claims to have no minimum ACT requirement, if you apply with a 29 or lower, you’ll have a very difficult time getting in unless you have something else very impressive in your application. Because there are so many applicants scoring 31 and above, a 29 will appear academically weak.
