Butler University Tuition Scholarship

Our students receive the most financial aid from Butler University. Unless otherwise specified, Butler gift aid is limited to full-time undergraduate students seeking their first bachelor’s degree and is only for tuition.

Applying for the scholarship for academics finalize your Common App. Apply by November 1 and choose Early Action admission to be eligible for the most scholarships.

Complete applications received after November 1 and admitted to Regular Decision will be considered for scholarships based on funding.

Depending on the caliber of the candidate pool, award amounts, which range from $15,000 to $24,000, change every academic year.

Awards are determined by a student’s academic performance and test results (if submitted). Notification: Academic scholarships are part of the admissions offer.

Renewable? Absolutely, provided that the student continues to meet the renewal requirements stated in the scholarship offer.

Butler University Tuition Grant

A completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid must be submitted in order to apply for a Butler University Grant (FAFSA).

Butler’s FAFSA deadline is March 1, while the suggested FAFSA filing date is December 1. Award Sums Vary depending on Academic Excellence and FAFSA-Determined Eligibility for Financial Aid.

Notification: Butler will consider awards when making financial aid offers to start in February.

Renewable? There is no automatic renewal for awards. For consideration, students must submit their FAFSA each year.

The only criteria used to determine Pell grant payouts are the FAFSA’s determination of financial assistance eligibility and the number of hours enrolled. Amount: Annual awards worth up to $6,895.

Students who qualify for Pell grants may elect to charge their textbooks and supplies to their student accounts.

Butler University Tuition Loan

The Direct Loan is a long-term, low-interest student loan that is available as an unsubsidized (a loan that is not based on need) or subsidized (loan that is based on need) loan.

Maximum annual grades for dependent students:

  • $5,500 for first-year students
  • $6,500 for a sophomore
  • $7,500 for juniors
  • Seniors $7,500

Repayment starts six months after graduation, quitting school, or enrolling less than half-time (six credit hours).

The fixed interest rate for Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans is changed annually on July 1. See studentaid.gov for the most recent information.

The origination cost for Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans is revised each year on October 1. For updates, visit studentaid.gov.

The origination fee for Direct Loans disbursed between October 1, 2021, and before September 30, 2022, is 1.057 percent.

Additional Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans may be available to independent students (as determined by the FAFSA).  Students must be enrolled for a minimum of six hours in order to qualify for the Federal Direct Loan program.

On-campus student employment is available to students who meet the FAFSA’s qualifying requirements for financial aid. Typical awards equal eight to twelve hours per week at minimum wage.

There is no automatic deduction of the award amount from the student’s bill. Students get paid for the hours they worked every two weeks.

Taxes on earnings must be paid by students, but they are not considered for assessing their eligibility for financial help the next year.

Although Butler University tuition may seem daunting at first, with proper planning and resources, students can pursue their academic goals without excessive financial burden.
