In order to help parents with Grade 8 applications in 2024 for acceptance and placement in 2024, we’ve put together this guidance.
Each province has various opening dates for school admissions with unique application processes and documentation requirements. To help you apply for your child’s high school in 2024, we’ve compiled the most frequently asked questions.

How Many Schools Must I Apply To?

Apply to at least three high schools, including the one that is most convenient for you. This school is within what is referred to as your “catchment zone.”
The National Department of Education recommends sending your child there even if you don’t want to.
The Western Cape does not have officially designated catchment zones for schools, and schools there do not require your proof of residency. Take note that your catchment zone is important for Gauteng schools that demand proof of residence.

How to Apply?

Only two provinces demand that you submit your applications to various schools using the same website. Gauteng and the Western Cape are these. You must submit an application directly to the high schools of your choosing in all the other provinces.

Gauteng

The Gauteng Department of Education has not revealed the specific application deadlines or admissions procedure for 2024. Once the data is available, we will update this guide.
Parents can register and submit their applications on their website here once the dates are made public. Here is where you may register.
Use the GDE-Online Application Platform to apply for a student’s first grade placement, and send the paperwork to the school.
The South African Schools Act, No. 84 of 1996 (as amended), and Gauteng’s Regulations on Admission of Learners to Public Schools No. 4138 of 2001, as revised on March 18, 2024, all apply to applications for admission to high schools.

Western Cape

This year, only the WCED online portal will accept applications for Western Cape Government schools. In order to apply, you must do so starting on March 14, 2024.
Note: You will need to submit to them and the WCED for some private institutions. You may email or provide supporting documents, such as copies of academic credentials, to some government or public schools.

They made direct applications to the colleges of your choice. On their websites, some high schools offer online application forms, while others only accept paper submissions in person.
It is crucial to completely fill out the forms and submit ALL necessary supporting documentation. The school’s admissions committee will evaluate your completed application forms.
