GDE Admission Application Process

Learners who applied through the GDE Online Admissions system will be placed according to the admission regulations listed below:

Important Note on GDE admission

1. Parents are encouraged to use the home address within the school feeder zone application option to find schools with feeder zones that include their home addresses.

2. To increase their chances of being placed closer to their home address, parents should choose schools with feeder zones that include their home address.

3. For each learner, parents will be able to apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of five schools.

4. Parents may not apply for more than one learner to the same school.

5. Parents must read and agree to the Terms and Conditions.

Applications will be accepted from July 22 to August 9, 2024. Log on to www.gdeadmissions.gov.za to apply.

The #2024OnlineAdmissionsGP application period for Grades 1 and 8 will begin on July 22, 202,2 at 08:00 and end on August 19, 202,2 at 00:00.

When applications become available, parents and guardians must follow the five-step application process outlined below.

GDE Admission 2024 | How to Apply Online

Apply online from 08:00 on 22 July 2024 to midnight on 19 August 2024 for admission to Grade 1 or Grade 8 in a public school.

Parents/guardians of children entering Grade 1 and/or Grade 8 in 2024 are reminded to apply to a school via www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.

Help with online applications is also available at any walk-in clinic or school in your area.

To receive a username and password, as well as other important information about the child’s application, parents/guardians must provide one reliable cellphone number.

All applicants must remember to upload certified copies of required documents to the system or submit documents to the schools to which they applied within 7 days of submitting their applications.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to log into the system and accept placement offers sent via SMS from 3 October 2024 to 30 November 2024.

GDE Admission for Grade R, Grade 2–7 and Grade 9–12

GDE Admission 2024 | How to Apply Online

Parents who wish to apply for Grade R, Grade 2-7, or Grade 9-12 at a public school in Gauteng for the 2024 academic year must do so directly at their designated school(s), rather than through the GDE Online Admissions System.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact their designated schools directly for information on how and when to apply for these grades.

Applications will be accepted from July 22 to August 19, 2024. Log on to www.gdeadmissions.gov.za to apply.

Documents for 2024 Online Admission

Parents must have certified copies of the following documents before applying for Grades 1 and 8 during the 2024 Online Admissions application period:

1. Parent/Guardian ID OR Passport

2. Child ID OR South African Birth Certificate OR Passport

3. Refugee Permit OR Asylum Seeker Permit OR Permanent Residence Permit OR Study Permit

4. Proof of Residential/Home Address

A certified copy of a valid municipal account in the name of the applicant’s parent OR a lease agreement signed by both the applicant and the landlord as well as the landlord’s ID document specifying the names of the tenants are acceptable forms of proof of residential/home address.

NOTE: An application cannot be processed without proof of:

1. Applicant’s parent’s residential home address.

2. Proof of Work Address (Optional, for those applying at a school closer to work)

3. Latest Schoo! Report and Clini Cardmmunisation Report (ForGrade 1 application only)

4. Within 7 days of applying, parents must upload certified copies of required documents to the GDE Online Admissions System (www.gdeadmissions.gov.za) OR submit certified copies of required documents to all schools applied to.

5. Parents cannot both upload and submit documents

6. Parents must ensure that the information they enter into the System when applying corresponds to the information on the documents they upload or submit.

How to Apply

Parents or legal guardians can log on to the system at www.gdeadmissions.gov.zaand follow these easy steps:

1. Enter details of a parent

2. Enter learner details

3. Apply to a school with available space

When applying for school admission, parents must bring the following documents with them:

1. Birth certificate or acceptable proof of birth date (do not take a baptismal certificate as proof);

2. Immunization card;

3. Transfer card and/or

4. Last report card

Those who are not South African citizens must also provide the following documentation:

1. Study/work permit;

2. Temporary or permanent residence permit from the South African Department of Home Affairs (DHA) and

3. Evidence that you have applied for permission to stay in South Africa.
