In College Park, Maryland, there is a public land-grant research institution known as the University of Maryland, College Park (often known as Maryland, UMD, or just Maryland).

The flagship institution of the University System of Maryland, In 1856, UMD was established.

With over 41,000 students from 123 different countries and all fifty states and the Washington metropolitan area, it is also the biggest institution in the state. It has a global alumni network of over 388,000 people.

They can assist you in locating your off-campus or on-campus home away from home. The university’s residence halls are home to nine out of ten freshmen at UMD.

It provides a terrific opportunity to connect with other students who share your interests by the roughly half of on-campus residents who are in living-learning communities.

Choosing a Major at UMD

They do not take your intended major into account while determining your eligibility for admission to UMD. Minors and double major preferences cannot be listed when applying.

However, after being accepted, you can discuss your choices with the academic counselor at your college.

Because of their high popularity, several majors must have a cap on the number of students they can accept. Limited Enrollment Programs are the name given to these degrees (LEP).

The specialized program then evaluates admitted individuals who declared a LEP as their major to determine their admission to that major.

They accept many students into their desired majors, but other LEP applicants might not be. If they accept you to UMD but not your desired LEP major, they will assign you to Letters & Sciences, where you can work with an advisor to complete the entrance requirements for that major.

You will be admitted directly to the major listed on your application if they accept you to UMD and did not choose a LEP major. Your admission determination letter will include the major you are assigned.

UMD Admissions Application Requirements

The admissions committee will consider the following criteria for all overseas applicants besides the prerequisites for freshman or transfer admission:

1. National education system.

2. Types of institutions attended.

3. English language proficiency.

4. If English is not your native language-regardless of your citizenship-you must provide the university with verification of your proficiency in English.

5. Your English language proficiency test scores, which must be less than two years old, must be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions directly from the testing agency.

6. Your application will not be considered complete until we have received your official English proficiency test scores.

7. Third-party academic evaluations for non-U.S. academic credentials.

8. Please review the “Non-U.S. Academic Credentials” section below for specific instructions on satisfying this requirement.

Non-U.S. Academic Credentials

Students holding academic credentials from countries other than the United States must submit more information to UMD. Depending on the sort of application you are making and the requirements involved, they might ask you to give some or all of:

High school/secondary credentials 

1. Official copies of your high school transcript (s), from each institution you’ve attended, sent in the native language along with a certified English translation.

2. Official results and certificates of completion from national secondary school examinations such as GCSE/GCE (where appropriate).

UMD Admissions Financial Cerification

If they have accepted you to UMD and hold an F-1 student visa, a J-1 exchange visitor visa, or intend to do so, you must present bank statements showing that you have enough money to cover your expenses. This paperwork is unnecessary until the university has granted you admission.

Visa Requirements

If they have admitted you to UMD and hold an F-1 student visa, J-1 exchange guest visa, or if you intend to apply for one, you must submit a photocopy of your I-94 Arrival/Departure Record and visa stamp. Prior to being accepted into the university, this documentation is unnecessary.

What time do UMD Decisions come out?

If you submit the application by this date, you’ll hear by April 1.

Can I get into UMD with a 3.5 GPA?

The University of Maryland-College Park’s (UMD) average high school GPA for admitted students is 4.28 on a 4.0 scale.

It is one of the most esteemed academic institutions in the world, to put it simply. There would not be a bad idea trying to apply to the University.
