The COA reflects a modest living allowance, even if your specific expenses may vary. Our typical COA Student Budget estimates given below may not accurately reflect your particular expenses and spending habits.
The data comes from the CSAC’s student expense budgets and the CSU’s recommended standard student budgets.

SJSU Tuition Scholarship
On campus, many academic divisions are in charge of running their own scholarships. Students are strongly recommended to be in continual communication with their major department to learn more about scholarships.
Each of these scholarships has its own unique requirements, due dates, and application procedures. For more information, students should speak with their department directly.
Numerous different organizations offer scholarships. Researching them all may require some of your time and effort. Although there are companies that will undertake this work for you in exchange for payment, SJSU does not endorse these solutions.
International students will only be eligible for merit-based scholarships. Financial aid, which excludes international students, includes need-based scholarships. To learn more, see Scholarships for Foreign Students.
SJSU Tuition Grant
Only undergraduate and teaching credential students (those pursuing their first bachelor’s degree or first teaching credential) are eligible for the federal Pell Grant, which is given to students based on their financial needs.
The Pell Grant serves as the basis for various forms of financial aid. A Pell Grant’s amount is prorated based on the number of enrolled units and is determined by the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is given to undergraduates who have severe financial needs.
While there are a limited number of funds available for this program, students with the lowest EFCs and the earliest FAFSA application deadlines are given preference.
Award Sums for the Period of Fall 2022 to Spring 2023 are $1000/per academic year and $500/per semester. Students who audit classes or enroll in courses for “no credit” are not eligible for financial help to cover their registration costs.
Recipients of state grants must be California residents in order to be eligible. Each award has unique specifications in addition to resident status. For further details, go here.
SJSU Tuition Loan
Money borrowed must be returned. Only borrow what is absolutely required, advises the student.
It’s a good idea to estimate the overall amount of borrowing you’ll require during your time in college and to be aware of the repayment obligations once you graduate.
The U.S. Department of Education provides Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans to eligible students attending participating institutions to assist with the expense of higher education.
These loans are sometimes referred to as Stafford Loans or Direct Stafford Loans. To assist students in need of financial aid, Direct Subsidized Loans have a little bit better terms.

SJSU Tuition Work Study
Students at SJSU can earn money to help pay for education while gaining useful work experience through the Federal Work-Study Program (FWS). On-campus and off-campus community service employment is a priority.
When reapplying for financial aid, wages are removed, which is one benefit of the FWS. FWS earnings, therefore, have no impact on future eligibility for financial aid. Nonetheless, FWS earnings are subject to tax. The work-study award starts at $5,000.
While SJSU tuition may seem daunting, there are various resources available to help students afford their education. Don’t let cost deter you from pursuing your academic goals at this renowned institution.
