Potential dental school students in the United States and Canada take the Dental Admission Test (abbreviated DAT), a multiple-choice standardized test.
Although there is a distinct Canadian version with different sections, both the American and Canadian versions are typically interchangeably accepted in both countries’ dental schools.

DAT Retest Policy Update
Candidates must wait 60 days between testing attempts on the DAT, with a maximum of four (4) such administrations authorized throughout any 12-month period.
Candidates who have taken the DAT three (3) times or more must request permission to retake the exam, submitting documentation of their most recent dental school application with each request.
The candidate is only permitted to retest once every 12 months after their fifth DAT attempt. The DAT retest policy is not subject to appeal.
How hard is the Dental Admissions Test?
While the overall subject matter is the same, there are often 5–10 questions that are very difficult and 30 that are easy to moderately difficult.
The DAT offers scores between 1 and 30. There are no parameters for passing or failing, but generally speaking, a score of 17 represents average performance on a national level.
How many times can you take the Dental Admission Test?
The test can only be taken once every 90 days. You are only permitted to retake the test three times, unless the ADA grants you exceptional authorization.
How do I prepare for Dental Admissions Exam?
For a period of three months, allocate three hours per day, five days per week. Find a DAT study partner who will keep you inspired and on track. Take two or three real-world simulated practice tests; this is the most accurate way to simulate the testing environment.
Is a 20 a Good DAT Score?
Competitive DAT scores range from 19 to 20 for each section. Many people consider an excellent composite DAT score to be one that is above 21.

What kind of questions are on the DAT?
The DAT consists of multiple-choice questions presented in English and includes a battery of four tests:
1. Survey of the Natural Sciences (100 items).
2. Perceptual Ability (90 items).
3. Reading Comprehension (50 items).
4. Quantitative Reasoning (40 items).
How do I study for the DAT in a month?
Set out time on your calendar for studying, aiming to do so for at least three hours each day, six days per week. Allow yourself one day every week free from studying so you can rest.
This week, devote one entire day studying each of the following subjects: Quantitative Reasoning, Perceptual Ability, Biology, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry.
When should I start studying for the DAT?

Is the DAT easier than practice tests?
