How to Apply for UPenn

Students are encouraged to reflect on themselves, their neighborhood, and their interests as part of the college admission process. We are eager to hear your voice and your tale.

Undergraduate Admissions

Undergraduate applicants to Penn are required to select one of the University’s four undergraduate schools (the College, Wharton, Penn Engineering, or Penn Nursing);

As well as a coordinated dual-degree, accelerated, or specialized program, to act as their home base throughout their academic career.

All accepted students will be enrolled in the particular program or school for which they applied.

Preparing for First-Year Admission

The Common Application and Coalition Application are both accepted at Penn.

Both applications are accepted equally and neither format is preferred in Penn’s application process. Penn is a proud partner institution with QuestBridge.

Preparing for Transfer Admission

For students intending to transfer to Penn, the Common Application and Coalition Application are acceptable, and the usage of the following resources is advised: Deadlines and a Checklist Academic Requirements, Admission Criteria, and Transfer Credit.

Graduate Admissions

On one location, 12 schools contain Penn’s graduate and professional programs. The application process for each graduate program is unique.

Direct applications are made by applicants to the desired program. Please contact the program of interest with any inquiries regarding the admissions process.

What GPA do You Need to get into UPenn?

You should also have a 3.9 GPA or higher. If your GPA is lower than this, you need to compensate with a higher SAT/ACT score.

For a school as selective as the University of Pennsylvania, you’ll also need to impress them with the rest of your application.

How Hard is it to get into UPenn?

UPenn is exceedingly difficult to get into, and only getting more challenging. Only 3,202 students were offered admission from a record-setting pool of 56,333 applicants for the class of 2025—resulting in an all-time low acceptance rate of 5.68%.

Although applicants considering applying through Early Decision must submit their applications earlier (November 1st) than Regular Decision applicants (January 5th), the process of applying is no different.

On Tuesday, April 6, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. ET, the University of Pennsylvania will announce admission decisions for Regular Decision applicants to the Class of 2025, the institution’s 269th class.

What Percentage of Upenn Applicants get Deferred?

Last year, the selection committee admitted approximately 16% of candidates whose applications were deferred to Regular Decision.
