Unisa Higher Certificate Courses Application Process

Follow these steps to apply:

  • Go to the Unisa website
  • Click on ‘Proceed to ODEL & Unisa’
  • Click on ‘apply now
  • Click on Undergraduate Qualifications
  • Do you have a student number? If you have a student number that starts with a 7, then click YES If you have any other Unisa student number but it doesn’t start with a 7 then Click NO.
  • Fill in the empty field with your personal details.
  • Select the qualification you want to apply for
  • Fill in the empty field with your personal details and proceed
  • Upload your documents
  • Submit your application

You must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of teaching and learning, a Senior Certificate (SC) with at least an F symbol on HG, or an E symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning.

Also, a National Certificate (Vocational) with at least 40% in the language of teaching and learning and completed vocational subjects from the same field of study to qualify for a Higher Certificate course.

After completing the course, you will be eligible to apply for a Unisa Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree.

Requirements to Study Higher Certificate Courses in Education for 2024

To be admitted to UNISA in 2024, you must meet the exact entry requirements for the qualification you have chosen. The minimum admission requirements for your chosen program are:

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of teaching and learning
  • A Senior Certificate (SC) with at least an F symbol on HG or an E symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning
  • A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with an equivalent of at least 40% in the language of teaching and learning in terms of the NSC.

  • Higher Certificate in Adult Basic Education and Training (98615)
  • Higher Certificate in Education Foundation Phase and Intermediate Phase (90093–FIP)
  • Higher Certificate in Education Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching (90093––SPF)

UNISA Student Fees and Funding in 2024

The Application Fee: Once you have received your UNISA student number, you must pay an online application fee of R115 and a hard copy application fee of R185.

Please keep in mind that this application fee is non-refundable, regardless of whether you choose not to enroll in UNISA’s programs, do not meet the admission requirements, or cannot accept an offer because of limited space.
