The National Senior Certificate Exam registration for 2023 is available online or at any district office for education. The deadline for manual and online registration is February 8, 2023.

Registration for November 2023 Exams

(ONLY NSC students who enrolled for and/or took the NSC exam in June 2023 may apply to take the NSC exam in November 2023.)

  • No registration for new subjects
  • No Senior Certificate (SC) candidates may register to write the November 2023 NSC examination

In order for your application to be accepted, you must submit the following materials:

  1. Complete application form
  2. Certified copy of ID
  3. June 2023 Statement of results OR June 2023 Admission letter
  4. Signed POPI Act form (page 3 of the registration form)

Only NSC Part-Time Repeater applicants who meet the following criteria may take the exam in November 2023:

  • Registered and/or wrote the June 2023 NSC examination
  • have a valid SBA mark

  • Registration for November 2023 NSC examination: 16 August 2023.

Application forms will be available:

  • at schools where the candidate collects June 2023 examination results;
  • From district offices; and
  • downloaded and printed from the WCED website | NO ONLINE APPLICATIONS.

They will collect the results of the June 2023 NSC and SC exams at the schools on August 3, 2023.

On Wednesday, August 3, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will announce the results of each individual at the pertinent testing locations.

  • Results are to be collected at the schools where the candidate had written June 2023 NSC/SC.
  • Results can be accessed via the WCED website: wcedonline.westerncape.gov.za on 3 August 2023 at 09:00.

How to Check Personal Details

  • Make sure the statement of results contains all the names listed on your identity card.
  • Make sure the spelling of your name(s) and last name is accurate.
  • Verify that the results are printed with the right identity number and date of birth.

Please take notice that such administrative blunders can be corrected within three months of the results being made public.

If there are any mistakes in the findings, email the WCED at (clearly stating the mistake to be fixed) ExamResults@westerncape.gov.za or Tel: 0861 819 919 | 021 467 2300.

The following files must be included with the email request and must be required reading:

  • Current statement of results
  • Certified copy of the identity document
  • Updated affidavit stating the reason for the difference between the identity document and the information on the Statement of Results
  • Specify the error to be rectified
  • Complete the reissuing application form.

Remarking & Rechecking Scripts

  • Closing date: 17 August 2023
  • Release of Remark | Recheck results: 19 September 2023.

Qualification

  • If a candidate believes that the marks given on the written exams do not accurately reflect their performance, they may request that their scripts be remarked or rechecked.
  • A remark denotes a second marker’s marking of the original answer script.
  • A second step to make sure all questions are properly scored and computed appropriately all marks is to read over your script again.

Apply to View Remarked|Rechecked Scripts

  • You can apply to examine your answer scripts once you’ve received your results, AFTER commenting and rechecking.
  • Apply to ExamMarking@westerncape.gov.za with proof of payment to view your answer scripts.

Exam Pass Requirements (4 Top Levels)

The following are the matric pass requirements for each of these levels:

Higher Certificate

  1. Must obtain at least 40% in Home Language
  2. Must obtain at least 40% in three subjects
  3. Must get at least 30% in three other subjects
  4. Must pass at least six out of seven subjects

Diploma Certificate

You can apply to study for a diploma at a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college or university of technology if you meet this pass requirement.

  1. Must obtain at least 40% in Home Language
  2. Must obtain at least 40% in three other subjects, excluding Life Orientation
  3. Must pass at least six out of seven subjects

Bachelor’s Certificate

  1. Must obtain at least 40% in Home Language
  2. Must obtain at least 50% in four subjects, excluding Life Orientation
  3. Must obtain at least 30% in one other subject
  4. Must pass at least six out of seven subjects

SNC Certificate

if students meet the following prerequisites for promotion, they will receive an NSC with an endorsement:

  1. 30% in the required official language at either Home Language or First Additional Language level
  2. A minimum of 30% in four other subjects

Please take note that in order to receive the NSC SNE endorsed certificate, candidates who give a minimum of five subjects for the NSC with an endorsement must receive at least 30% in each of the five courses.
