Is NSFAS Open for 2023?

Consider applying for NSFAS funding if you are or will soon be a TVET College student seeking a way to pay for your education. Here is the deadline for NSFAS’ second semester application period.

According to a recent announcement from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), TVET College students who are not already sponsored but would like to apply for assistance will be able to do so beginning with the second semester.

They will accept NSFAS applications for TVET Colleges around South Africa starting on July 4 and closing on July 22, 2023.

Students can use the following procedures to submit their NSFAS applications:

How to Re-Apply for NSFAS Application Dates for 2023

For all applicants planning to attend a university or TVET College in South Africa, the NSFAS Online Application form for 2023 may start accepting submissions on November 2, 2023, and end on January 21, 2023.

On the NSFAS website, however, application deadlines have been made public. Please visit the 2023 online application portal at www.nsfas.org.za for more information.

For information on when applications are open and closed, NSFAS strongly advises all prospective students to check their official website and other social media accounts.

During the designated application period, all applications must be submitted online. For 2023, no late applications will be allowed.

When applying students will be required to  provide the following supporting documents when submitting their applications:

  • Copy of South African birth certificate/copy of ID document/Temporary ID of the student
  • Copy of South African birth certificate/copy of ID document/Temporary ID of parent(s)/guardian/spouse
  • Proof of income (where applicable) – student/parent(s)/guardian or spouse (not older than 3 months.
  • SASSA recipients have no proof of income required.
  • A student recognized as a vulnerable child (e.g. Orphan) must submit a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration Form completed by the Social worker
  • Students with disabilities must complete and submit the Disability Annexure A form.

How do I Check my NSFAS Application Status?

You will receive an SMS or email informing you of the results of your application if you want to verify or follow the status of your NSFAS Application for 2023.

To check the status of your application for the academic year 2023–2023, you must log into the “myNSFAS Account Portal” in order to see if you have been “Provisionally Funded.”

NSFAS Application Requirements

After the application closing deadline, NSFAS will collect the application form and any supporting documents that were sent with it.

It will not be necessary for students who applied for NSFAS during the walk-in application session to complete the NSFAS system access form. To reactivate their account, they only need to send an email to servicedesk@nsfas.org.za.

You must satisfy the following requirements to be eligible for NSFAS:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Can be a SASSA grant recipient.
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum.
  • Persons with a disability whose combined household income is not more than R600 000 per annum.
  • Applicants who first registered at university before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

A government scholarship known as NSFAS pays for the education of underprivileged South African students who want to attend public universities or TVET institutes. Registration, tuition, housing, books, supplies, and living expenses are all covered by the NSFAS financing.

  1. Go to www.nsfas.org.za/apply-2023 online
  2. Then, you create myNSFAS account.
  3. Click on the “Apply” tab on the NSFAS website
  4. Ensure to update all NSFAS online Application 2023 information before you proceed
  5. Next, upload NSFAS supporting documents for the 2023 Application.
  6. Click the “SUBMIT” button to complete the application process for review.

Prospective students should keep in mind that the NSFAS grant application period is scheduled to run from 2 November 2023 to 21 January 2023 for the academic year 2023–2023. As a result, in order to complete your funding, you will need the following in order to apply for NSFAS 2023.
