The fake job advertisement contains the official DBE letterhead and the South African coat of arms. It also contains the job requirements, a closing date for applications and a web link where applicants can find out more information on the advertised positions.

It is important to note that the DBE currently runs the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) as its youth employment initiative. Participants of the BEEI are employed at schools in communities across South Africa as education and general school assistants.

Through the BEEI, the department has created 830 000 work opportunities over the programme’s three phases. It has since been revealed that 63% of participants who were part of the BEEI were women.
