Are you aware of the Stony Brook University Application deadline and closing date for 2024 for regular undergraduate applicants? Therefore, all qualified applicants are advised to apply before the closing date.

The Management of Stony Brook University (SBU) has released the application deadline, which is expected to start in March 2024 and close in December 2024.

SBU also accepts applications from candidates interested in post-first degree law, post-graduate admission, international admission, distance education admission, and graduate entry Medical Programmes.

Below are some key dates and milestones for fall 2024 admission. Note: All deadlines are effective as of 11:59 p.m. MST on the dates indicated.

Application Materials Needed at SBU

Your application requires all the following:

1. A Statement of Purpose, describing your interests and motivation to pursue a graduate degree.

2. A Resume or CV, describing your work experience, academic projects, and areas of expertise.

3. Three recommendation letters, from academia or industry. All recommendation letters should be submitted online. For Ph.D. applicants in Computer Science, we highly recommend that a majority of the letters be from academia.

4. Please upload clear scanned transcripts and legible scans of your transcript(s) or the admissions committee will not review your application. 

However, if transfer credits were used to complete your post-secondary degree. Also, we require an uploaded copy of the official transcript from the academic institution where the transfer credit originated.

Application Requirements

For admission to the graduate program in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, the minimum requirements are as follows:

1. A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, natural science, engineering, applied science, or social science with a strong mathematics background.

At the minimum for the master’s program application. Therefore, all students should be fluent in Linear Algebra and Multivariate Calculus (Calc. III).

2. A minimum overall cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, and at least a 3.0 average in all courses in pertinent or related fields. Attention will be given to math-related courses and GPAs as well.

3. For Fall 2024 applications, the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test is NOT required. However, you are most welcome to submit your GRE score should you have it.

4. Any GRE scores should be reported by ETS (Educational Testing System) to the Graduate School using institutional code 2548 and department code 0702.

An applicant who is not a native or primary speaker of English must present a minimum score for either the TOEFL or IELTS tests as follows.

Application Procedure

Please read this entire webpage before you apply.

1. General application information can be obtained at the Graduate School website or one can go straight to the application website.

2. Note that the application portal status page will give several options to upload additional documents after the application has been submitted. Select the “Personal Statement” option from the dropdown menu and upload your statement.

3. The department’s Graduate Admissions Committee will review application files. Upon the recommendation of the Admissions Committee before it will be approved.

4. The Graduate Program Director will authorize an offer of admission to either our M.S. or Ph.D. program with an initial placement in one of the department’s five graduate tracks.

5. All students who have been admitted to the doctoral program will automatically be considered for financial support. If the application is submitted by the due date for financial support. M.S. students are not eligible for support.
