This contest consists of four levels. Local VFW Posts sponsors the first level (entry); Winners in the post advance to the VFW District (regional) level where the one first-place winner is advanced to the VFW Department (state) level.

Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship is for high school seniors who have a caddie, successfully and regularly, at a Western Golf Association (WG) member club for the duration of two or more years.

There’s variation in the amount of each award annually. $30,000 is given to the first-place national award winner.  More than the total amount of $2.5 million has been designated for the entire program, including local, district, state, and national awards.

All awards offered are non-renewable. In escrow, all scholarship funding is held at VFW National Headquarters for 10 years from high school graduation.
