The grant was introduced in April 2024 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic and has since came to an end on 30 April 2024.

The applications for this grant have also closed but SASSA has stated that those who were not approved for the grant between February and April in 2024 still have the opportunity to lodge an appeal on their website.

Originally SASSA said that appeals would close on 30 April however they have now extended the appeals deadline to 31 May 2024.

“If the appeal is not lodged, the declined application will not be reconsidered,” SASSA said, adding that no appeals will be accepted after the 31st of May.
