Duties

The Government Printing Works Vacancies have specific duties for the positions of Record Clerk and Printer Assistant. Here are the details:

  • Record Clerk
    • Sort, register, and dispatch.
    • Open GPW mail and record in registers.
    • Distribute mail, cheques and postal orders.
    • Returning undelivered mail.
    • Open and close files according to the record classification system and/or applicable register.
    • Issuing documents.
    • File/store, trace (manually), and retrieve documents and files.
    • Complete indexing files.
    • Open and maintain registered post registers, receipt of money registers, and remittance registers for all moved posts.
    • Attend to clients.
    • Handle telephonic and other inquiries received.
    • Open, maintain, operate, and replenish franking equipment.
    • Creating and maintaining records management systems (updating, data entry, archiving).
  • Printer Assistant
    • Perform general assisting and supporting Artisans in operating Finishing and Packaging equipment in CMC mechanical packaging machines, Saddle-stitching /Gang-stitching,
      stapling, sewing, guillotines, folding, side stitching, and gluing.
    • Packing in boxes, Moving, Loading, and offloading of printing production materials.
    • Assist in quality assurance and control of printed and unprinted materials.
    • General housekeeping, and cleaning duties in adherence to Health and Safety standards and procedures.
    • Operate gluing machines and assist artisans with the binding of books.

Eligibility and Requirements

The qualifications for each position are as follows:

  • Record Clerk
    • A Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or NQF Level 4.
    • 1-2 years experience in a record management environment.
    • Computer literate with good knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
    • Understanding of National Archives, Public Service Act, and Public Service Regulations.
    • Basic understanding of PFMA and Treasury Regulations.
    • Understanding of Good Corporate Governance principles (King Report).
    • Have good communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Ability to work in a team and under pressure.
  • Printer Assistant
    • Grade 10 or equivalent qualification (Grade 12 will be an advantage).
    • Numerical proficiency.
    • Problem-solving skills.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Need to work extended hours and night shifts when necessary and when required.
    • Knowledge of the printing environment.
