About Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation & CRET

Cyril Ramaphosa started giving bursaries to a select group of worthy students in 1996 so they might pursue higher education. He accomplished this by giving away the cash he received from his appearance fees.

In 2000, this became the Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust (CRET).

About 21 years after Mr. Ramaphosa funded his first scholarship, a magnificent and expanding hall of fame is filled with graduates who were CRET-enabled and whose aspirations of becoming highly educated professionals have come true.

The Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation established the Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust (CRET) Bursary Programme with the goal of providing financial aid to students from financially underprivileged backgrounds who exhibit strong academic results and would otherwise not be able to afford to pursue further education.

Through education and business development, the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, an independent non-profit, seeks to better the lives of South African youth and create opportunities for them.

The Foundation’s history began in 1996 when president Cyril Ramaphosa began funding university tuition bursaries for underprivileged students using proceeds from his public speaking appearances.

On the basis of this goal, the Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust (CRET) was established in 2000.
