In order to maintain a positive learning environment, the admissions and records office is dedicated to providing accurate and timely information regarding applications, registration, student enrollment records, and academic policies.

Application and Requirements

The application must be submitted online, and the supporting documentation may be sent by mail, email, scan, or in person.

You will get an email with instructions on how to submit your supplemental papers after submitting an online application.

Once ALL required documents have been received, your application will be processed. Give the processing time up to two weeks (excluding weekends and holidays). Applications for part-time work are listed below.

Listed below are the supplemental documents needed to be completed in order to be admitted to East Los Angeles College.

1. Passport copy

2. Minimum TOEFL score of 450 (IBT 45) (CBT 133), or higher (ELAC code is 4296), or IELTS 4.5 or higher, or iTEP 3.0 or higher, or Official STEP Eiken 2A grade level or higher (Japanese students only), or Duolingo 75 or higher, or completion of the highest level from a US language school.

Note: Due to the many changes/cancellations of tests offered by some official testing centers, our college would like to temporarily offer an English Proficiency Video Examination.

4. Financial Affidavit form

5. Confidential Financial Statement showing a minimum balance of U.S. $24,000

6. US $50.00 non-refundable application processing fee.  Fee can be paid online through the MyCollege.laccd.edu  website or with money order made out to ELAC-ISO.

7. Guardian Statement – student who is under the age of 18 must have a guardian in the United States (click to view: form)

8. Copy of current visa and I-94 (Transfer Students Only)

9. All current and previous status documents (I-20, DS-2023, etc) (Transfer Students Only)

10. Student Status Verification Form: completed by the student (Transfer Students Only)

11. Mail official transcripts from all previous US colleges, universities, and high schools (Transfer Students Only)

12. Personal Statement: explain your educational goal or reason to continue your education (Transfer Students Only)

Students who have completed a degree such as an associate/bachelor’s degree or higher

Students who do not have active F1 student status or the minimum 2.00-grade point average requirement

How to Apply

Registration Appointments will be emailed to students or available using the SIS (Student Information System)

1. Enroll at East Los Angles College (ELAC)

The first step is enrolling at East Los Angeles College if you aren’t already a student. Visit our office if you need help, and we can assist you with the admissions procedure.

Similarly, you might also begin the procedure independently by filling out the online East Los Angeles College Application for Admission and then going through the enrollment procedures that are outlined after the application.

Start off at ELAC, Create an account by clicking the ELAC link, then enter the necessary data. Your Student ID number will be sent to you via email after you submit your application to ELAC.

2. Contact a NextUP/CAFYES Staff member

After enrolling at ELAC, get in touch with our office by calling 323-268-8769 or emailing nextup@elac.edu to find out what services you are qualified for.

In the same vein, a committed staff member will guide you through every step of the process, including EOPS, financial aid applications, and enrolling in courses that have been approved by a counselor.

3. Verify Your Status as a Foster Youth

You must prove that you are a current or past foster youngster in order to use NextUP/CAFYES services.

In other words, you must give us your Ward of the Court (WOC) Letter in order to do this. Call the Foster Care Support Services Bureau at 1(916)651-7465 or the Foster Care Ombudsman’s Office at 1(877) 846-1602 to make a request.

With your permission, a NextUP/CAFYES staff member will get a WOC on your behalf if you are unable to do so.

Is ELAC Still Accepting Applications?

If you are a Continuing student, you DO NOT need to complete a new application, even if the upcoming term will be your first time enrolling in courses at ELAC.

What Is GPA Required for ELAC?

ELAC students must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher

How do I Reapply to ELAC?

In addition, K-12 students must reapply each term. If you are a returning ELAC student and have had a lapse in enrollment, you must submit a new application to attend.

Is ELAC Free for Two Years?

Aside from offering 2 years of community college free, ELAC College Promise provides scholars with a summer transition activity, registration support;

First-Year Center mentors, dedicated counselors and support staff, cohort courses, incentives, and opportunities for international travel through the Los Angeles City

How Many Units Can I Take at ELAC?

A student may add additional short-term courses as long as it does not exceed 19 active units within the semester.

Summer Session: A student may request to enroll in more than 9 units (9.5-14 units) if a second session is offered and the student does not enroll in more than 9 units in one session.

However, the College Promise program at East Los Angeles College provides two years of free tuition to California residents who are first-time freshmen with a High School diploma, GED, or equivalency. Share with others and visit our page again.
