San Diego State University Admission Requirements 2024/2025

Before you can be fully accepted into San Diego State University. You must meet certain requirements. Such as your high school grade point average (GPA) and ACT/SAT scores. However, the GPA must not be lower than 2.0.

San Diego State University’s admissions process examines a comprehensive range of factors for each applicant who is applying. 

They enrol students who are both academically qualified and show the potential to contribute to SDSU’s diverse community.

First-Time Freshman Requirements

All first-time freshmen applicants must have graduated from high school. Also, have earned a Certificate of General Education Development (GED), or have passed the California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE).

Students will be admitted to the premajor (including undeclared) in which they applied. Therefore, there will be a limited number of enrollment slots in each premajor at the San Diego State University Admission Requirements.

San Diego State University Subject Requirements

San Diego State University requires that first-time freshman applicants complete, with grades of C- or better.

Also, a comprehensive pattern of college and prior study totalling 15 units. A “unit” is one year of study in high school.

1. Two years of social science, including one year of U.S. history, or U.S. history and government;

2. Four years of English (literature and composition courses);

3. Three years of mathematics (algebra, geometry, and intermediate algebra; four years recommended);

4. Two years of laboratory science (one biological and one physical, both with laboratories);

5. Two years in the same language other than English (subject to waiver for applicants demonstrating equivalent competence);

6. One year of visual and performing arts courses selected from, dance, drama/theatre, music, or visual art (may complete two semester-long courses selected from same discipline); and

7. One year of selected from English, advanced mathematics, social science, history, laboratory science, language other than English, visual and performing arts, or other courses approved and included on the UC/CSU “A-G” list.

Transfer Student Requirements

Students who have completed 60 or more transferable semester college units with 90 or more quarter units are considered upper-division transfer students.

Students who finish college units during high school or through the summer immediately following high school graduation are also considered first-time and must meet those admission requirements.

Transferable courses are those designated for baccalaureate credit by the college or university offering the courses.

The CSU General Education- Breadth (GE-Breadth) program allows California community college transfer.

Also, allow students to fulfil lower-division general education requirements for any CSU campus before transfer.

Up to 39 of the 48 GE-Breadth units required can be transferred from and certified by a California college.

“Certification” is the official notification from a California community college that a transfer student has completed courses fulfilling lower-division general education requirements for the San Diego State University Admission.

How to Apply

1. Use the CSU common admission application, Cal State Apply, to apply.

2. A nonrefundable filing fee of $70 must accompany your application.

Admission decisions are at first based on self-reported data on the application, so we do not need your transcripts until after you have been admitted.

You must provide complete and accurate information on your application, such as high school GPA, course titles, and grades.

Your Transcripts will be used to verify your self-reported information and any misreporting will jeopardize your admission status at the San Diego State University Admission.
