Lydia attended Manthata Tribal School up to standard five and six at Botlokwa Primary. She attended high school at Mokomene School and later attended teacher training at Mokopane.

Lydia taught for 10 years at home and in the year 1974, she moved to Soweto where she taught until she retired in 1997.
