WomEng is a multi-award winning social enterprise developing high-skilled girls and women for the engineering and technology industries. Our core philosophy is the promotion of STEM, focusing on engineering and technology from primary school to industry. We believe that cognitive and behavioural skills are vital for the engineering workforce. Beyond these skills, it is essential for girls and women to have mentorship and leadership development opportunities to create a virtuous cycle of women participating in STEM fields.

The WomEng Southern Africa Fellowship Programme powered by De Beers Group develops leadership, innovation, well-being and employability skills required by young graduates to succeed in the engineering industry and beyond.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants for the 2024 Women in Engineering Southern Africa Fellowship, which aims to develop leadership, innovation, employability and well-being skills required by young graduates to succeed in the engineering industry and beyond.

The fellowship will have four modules running from September 2024- March 2024, with an assignment and feedback required at the end of each module.

The four (4) modules to be covered include:

  • Module 1: Leadership – Unlocking and Telling Your Own Story
  • Module 2: Innovation – Developing Skills for the Future World of Work
  • Module 3: Well-being – Learning to Recharge and Practice Self-care
  • Module 4: Employability – Thriving in the Workplace

Engaged fellows will be invited to networking events with leaders from De Beers Group and Zutari and Southern Africa Fellowship alumni from all three (3) countries (Botswana, Namibia or South Africa) spanning 2024 to 2024.

There will be thinking, discussing, writing and reflecting tasks designed to shape the way fellows think about themselves as engineering professionals and leaders. Successful applicants will have an opportunity to attend an in-person networking event with leaders from De Beers Group in their respective countries.

WomEng Southern Africa Fellowships 2024 Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the WomEng Southern Africa Fellowships for Africans 2024, applicants are to meet the following criteria:

  • Applications for the WomEng Southern Africa Fellowships for Africans 2024 are open to all engineering, technology and built environment students that identify as women.
  • Applicants must be studying full-time at a university or university of technology in South Africa, Botswana or Namibia. Applicants that are citizens of South Africa, Namibia or Botswana are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be in the second to the final year of undergraduate studies or full-time postgraduate studies.
  • Applicants must be able to commit between 7-9 hours each month between September 2024 – March 2024 to participate in the programme. The programme is designed, taking into consideration foreseen academic workloads.
