What is a University?
Universities are both undergraduate and graduate-level educational institutions, whether they are public or private. These institutions, which pride themselves on having vibrant, diverse environments, typically have large campuses and a wide range of programme options.
Private universities are often smaller and more selective, in contrast to public institutions, which frequently enrol tens of thousands of students. For instance, Princeton University, a prestigious Ivy League school, enrols just 8,000 students, compared to Texas A&M University, a sizable public university, which has over 70,000 students.

What is a College?

Are Universities and Colleges the Same Thing?
A university and a college are not the same things, technically. While a college typically offers just undergraduate degree programmes, a university often refers to a facility that offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.
When discussing unique degree programmes, such as a combined bachelor’s and master’s programme, the distinctions can get somewhat hazy. Since the graduate-level study is a component of these programmes of study, universities will typically provide them.
However, most people interchangeably use the two phrases in ordinary speech. Few people distinguish between the two names, which are both used to designate any higher education institution.
What Makes a College a University?
When a college provides graduate programmes, such as master’s and doctoral degrees, it becomes a university. Note that it is not required to provide both. It is not even required to provide several graduate programmes. A college is considered a university as long as it provides one master’s programme.
