The fourth phase of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative is the current phase now. In this phase, qualified individuals who wish to be Teaching Assistants can send applications.

Applications to become a teaching assistant as part of the fourth phase of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative will be opening soon, here are more details.

The goal of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative for Basic Education is to reduce unemployment among youths in South Africa. Last year,  about 320 000 young men and women people between the age of  18 and 34 years old benefited from this Initiative.

PYEI Teacher Assistant

Applicants will use the SA youth.mobi website to apply. Here is the process:-

  1. Load https://sayouth.me/DBE in your browser.
  2. Fill in the fields with your information, especially the required ones.
  3. Search for the school closest to your location
  4. Select the closest school to you
  5. Go through the information you have given so far
  6. Finally, Click ‘Submit’

Please note that after application, you will be invited for an Interview in November and December 2023. Following the interview, the Initiative will train you, this training will be in December 2023 and in the first two weeks of 2023.

Applicants for the position of education and general school assistants from February to April of next year will be employed in no-fee paying schools with a monthly stipend of R4081.44.

These are the requirements every applicant must meet to apply. Any applicant must be:-

  • within the age range of 18 -34.
  • a new applicant who has not participated in the previous phases.
  • living at least within 5km of the urban school or 40km for the rural/farm school.

A matric certificate is not required to be a General Assistant, but teaching assistants must have a minimum of a matric certificate or tertiary education qualifications.
