Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor – Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering University of Pretoria

It will be expected of the successful candidate to:

• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the department
• Supervise final-year undergraduate project students and postgraduate honours, master’s and/or PhD students;
• Conduct research as a member of a research group in the Department and publish in leading accredited journals;
• Raise and manage additional funding from national and international funding agencies and industry to support the activities of the relevant research group;
• Expand existing research programmes or initiate new research programmes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Lecturer:

• Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering.

• Appropriate tertiary teaching experience at undergraduate levels.
• Ability to conduct and publish research.
• Supervision of Master’s students.

Senior Lecturer (same as for Lecturer, plus):

• Doctorate degree in Industrial Engineering
• A proven record of research experience supported by suitable publications
• Supervision of Master’s and PhD students.
• Appropriate tertiary teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Preference will be given to the candidate with a specialization in Operations Research. However, candidates from the other areas of Industrial Engineering are encouraged to also apply.

Associate Professor (same as for Lecturer and Senior Lecturer; plus)

• A proven record of research experience supported by suitable publications
• A proven research record supported by publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
• Proof of supervision of Master’s and PhD students.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

For all levels:

• The ability to effectively teach large undergraduate modules.
• The ability to effectively teach and supervise postgraduate modules.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

• Evidence of teaching excellence
• Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching and research expertise that complement the Department’s needs;
• Related industry work or consulting experience;
• An appropriate NRF-research rating;
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (ECSA) will be an added advantage

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
