About the University

VT Admissions Acceptance Rate
Virginia Tech admissions is competitive, with a 56% acceptance rate and a 64.3% early acceptance rate. Half of Virginia Tech’s admitted students had a SAT score between 1210 and 1410 or an ACT score between 26 and 32.
However, one-fourth of approved applicants received scores that were higher than these ranges, while the other quarter received scores that were lower.
GPA Requirements for VT Admissions
Virginia Tech expects you to be at the top of your class with a GPA of 4.04. To compete with other applicants, you’ll need practically straight A’s in all of your classes.
You should take difficult subjects – AP or IB courses – to show that college-level academics are simple.
If you are a junior or senior, it is difficult to change your GPA in time for college applications. If your GPA is at or below the school average of 4.04, you’ll need to improve your SAT or ACT score. This will allow you to compete effectively against applicants with greater GPAs than you.

Virginia Tech’s average SAT composite score is 1285 on a 1600 SAT scale. With this score, Virginia Tech is competitive for SAT test scores.
The New SAT 25th percentile score is 1180, and the New SAT 75th percentile score is 1390. A New SAT score of 1180 places you below average, while a score of 1390 positions you above average.
ACT Requirements for VT Admissions
The ACT score for the 25th percentile is 25, and the ACT score for the 75th percentile is 31.
Even if Virginia Tech shows there is no minimum ACT requirement, if you apply with a 25 or lower, you will have a more difficult time getting in, unless you have something else noteworthy in your application.
Application Deadline
The deadline for applications is March 15.
Application Fee
Virginia Tech charges a $60 application fee.
