About the University
The University of California, Irvine (UCI or UC Irvine) is a public land-grant research university in Irvine, California. UCI is one of the ten campuses that make up the University of California system.
As of Fall 2023, there were approximately 30,000 undergraduate students and 6,000 graduate students enrolled at UCI.
UCI Acceptance Rate
Admission to UC Irvine is highly selective with an acceptance rate of 30%. UC Irvine graduate students have an average SAT score of between 1230 and 1430 or an average ACT score of 26 to 33.
The usual application deadline for admission to UC Irvine is November 30.
UC Irvine GPA Requirements
Many schools specify a minimum GPA requirement, but this is often the bare minimum to apply without being rejected immediately.
The GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need to really get in. For this, let’s look at the school’s average GPA for its current students. The average GPA at UC Irvine is 4.
With a GPA of 4, UC Irvine requires you to be the best in your class. You need A in almost all of your classes to compete with other candidates. Plus, take tough lessons – AP or IB courses – to prove college-level academics are a breeze.
If you are currently a junior or senior, it will be difficult to change your GPA in time for college applications.
If your GPA is at or below the school average of 4, you will need a higher SAT or ACT score to compensate. This will help you compete effectively against other candidates who have higher GPAs than you.

UC Irvine SAT Requirements
Many schools say they don’t have a SAT score threshold, but the truth is, there is a hidden SAT requirement. This is based on the school’s average score.
The average SAT score at UC Irvine is 1310 on the 1600 SAT scale. This score makes UC Irvine moderately competitive for SAT test scores.
The new 25th percentile SAT score is 1180 and the new 75th percentile SAT score is 1440. A 1180 on the New SAT puts you below average, while a 1440 puts you above average.
UC Irvine ACT Requirements
Much like the SAT, UC Irvine probably doesn’t have a strict ACT limit, but if you score too low, they will throw your application in the trash.
The average ACT score at UC Irvine is 29. This score makes UC Irvine moderately competitive for ACT scores. The 25th percentile ACT score is 25 and the 75th percentile ACT score is 33.
While UC Irvine probably claims they don’t have a minimum ACT requirement, if you’re applying with a 25 or less, you’ll have a really hard time getting in unless you have something else really impressive in your application.
There are so many candidates scoring 29 and above that a 25 seems academically weak.
