Tuition fees
This information is for home undergraduates and PGCE students.
Home undergraduates and PGCE students who are not undertaking a year abroad or a placement year, and who are studying for the entirety of the academic year, will be charged a tuition fee of £9,250 in 2023/21.
Undergraduate Year Abroad fee: £1,385
Undergraduate Placement fee: £1,850
Students who suspend their studies or withdraw from their studies during the academic year, who are returning from a period of suspension or who are studying a reduced number of modules, will be charged on a pro-rata basis. The majority of home undergraduates and PGCE students choose to pay their tuition fees by taking out a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance England (or equivalent).
You should contact your regional funding body for information on Tuition Fee Loans (click on the Related Links to the right).
You do not have to take out a Tuition Fee Loan, you can pay your tuition fees directly to the University.
Important Information About Tuition Fee Loans
- most home undergraduates and PGCE students can borrow Tuition Fee Loans to pay their tuition fees. This means that you will not have to pay your tuition fees up front.
- you will not have to repay your Tuition Fee Loan until you are earning over £25,000 per year.
- when you repay your Tuition Fee Loan you will only ever repay 9% of your earnings over £25,000 per annum. For example, if you are earning £28,800 per annum and are paid monthly you will only repay £23 per month (source: www.gov.uk/repaying-your-student-loan).
- you will be charged interest on your Tuition Fee Loan. Home undergradutes and PGCE students starting their studies in 2023/20 are on what the Student Loans Company calls “Plan 2”. The current interest rate for Plan 2 loans is 6.1% (source: www.gov.uk/guidance/how-interest-is-calculated-plan-2). Interest rates change each year in April.
