She was born to a Malawian father and a Zimbabwean mother. She was raised by her grandmother and mother in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria.
Her first exposure to politics was in 2010 when she became SRC deputy president at Tshwane North College.
Education
Chirwa had her secondary education at Mamelodi Secondary School. She graduated top of her year group and district D4 in Tshwane with 5 distinctions.
This made the Tshwane District Municipality award her for Diligence and Academic Excellence.
She went on to the University of Pretoria where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama.
In 2015, she was specially awarded by the Economics Faculty of The University of Pretoria awarded her for Community Involvement, Academic Excellence and Performance
While at the University of Pretoria, she arrested and suspended from school following the #FeesMustFall campaign that held between 2015 and 2016. She had her Master’s degree in BA Drama and Film Studies from Witwatersrand University.
Political Career
She became an activist in 2015 at the age of 20 years. Chirwa joined the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and later became the media and communications officer for the student command.
She has since been instrumental in various campaigns including #RememberKhwezi and #FeesMustFall. She is a member of the National Assembly for the EFF.
