Placement and study abroad fees

If you’re an undergraduate student starting in 2023/21 or 2023/22, you pay:

  • 20% of your tuition fees during your placement year if the placement is for a year
  • the normal tuition fee if the placement is for less than a year.

These fees are subject to Government policy changes and you should buy insurance if you do a placement abroad.

How to pay your fees

If you are an undergraduate student and you:

  • have a student loan, this is paid directly to Sussex
  • don’t have student loans, you pay your fees in full, or in two or three instalments.

If you’re a Masters or PhD student, you must either pay your fees in full at the beginning of each academic year or in instalments if you’re self funding.

You can pay your fees:

  • online when you register or through your Sussex Direct account
  • on the phone by calling the Student Accounts Office
  • through Western Union if you make an international payment.

If you have a Sussex scholarship with a fee waiver or money off your fees, this appears in your Sussex Direct account.

You may need to take extra evidence to the Student Accounts Office if you:

  • are sponsored
  • can’t see your student loan payments in your student account
  • have a career development loan.
