At Year Beyond we welcome applications from young people between the ages of 18 and 25 years old who are passionate about making a change in their own lives and in broader society.

At the same time as offering this important service in your community, you will be to receive training in a range of work related competencies equipping you for your next step.

Who Should Apply For The Year Beyond Programme 2024?

  • Some streams may have additional requirements like a minimum mark in language or Maths. Make sure you are familiar with that before you embark on the application process.
  • Graduates (Diploma, Degree, Honours, etc.) from all fields of study are eligible to apply. Students who are taking the whole year off from their tertiary studies are also eligible to apply.

How to Apply to Year Beyond Programme 2024

Ensure that you can answer yes to all the following requirements in order to apply:

  1. Are you between the ages of 18 – 25? This may be different for some streams
  2. Do you live in the Western Cape?
  3. Do you understand that this is not an employment opportunity?
  4. Do you understand that you will receive a small stipend and not a monthly salary?
  5. Are you clear that this is just an application and that you will only be invited for an interview and or assessment if you make the shortlist?
  6. Do you have a profile on the SAYouth?Mobi datafree website? If not, make sure you register on the site and complete your profile before applying.

If you answered yes to all these questions, then you are clear to apply for this learnership programme.

NOTE: Year Beyond is a full-time commitment.  Your time on the programme will be full days from Monday – Friday. (This may differ for some streams)

Placemakers Programme

About the Programme

The YearBeyond Placemakers Programme is a memory project managed by the Western Cape Museum Service with the aim to foster an appreciation for our diverse past and facilitating understanding between diverse communities and age groups.

The YearBeyond Placemakers Programme requires a commitment of 16 hours per week which may include weekends and evenings.

The programme consists of two elements, namely:

  1. Collect diverse memories and experiences of the people of the Western Cape through storytelling events, memory mapping.
  2. Oral history interviews as part of our museums’ resource archives.

A customer care programme at the Western Cape affiliated museums to create a welcoming and safe space for visitors where they can interact with the exhibitions and with other members of the community.

Duties and Responsibilities

Front of house duties:

  • Working at the reception desk managing entrance tickets and fees, donations, and general enquiries regarding the museum programme and activities
  • Working on the museum floor being able to respond to enquiries regarding the exhibition
  • Conduct generic site tours
  • Provide customer care services (direct to facilities and bathrooms,  create a welcoming atmosphere, assist visitors where necessary.
  • Assist with security (assist with opening up and lockdown, be a presence on the museum floor)

Memory project:

  • Organize and facilitate at least one workshop/discussion per month and assist with writing up information for the museum archive
