Brief History of the University of KwaZulu-Natal
On January 1, 2004, the University of KwaZulu-Natal was established when the University of Durban-Westville and the University of Natal merged to form the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The new university combines the important histories of the two previous universities.
The university’s mission is to become a truly South African university of choice that is academically excellent, research-driven, entrepreneurial, and socially engaged.
Kwazulu Natal University will accept applications for the 2024-2024 academic year beginning on the 17th of January 2024. They Founded the University of Durban-Westville in the 1960s as the University College for Indians on Salisbury Island in Durban Bay.
University of KwaZulu-Natal UKZN Application Requirements
The University of KwaZulu-Natal UKZN admission application requirements for the 2024 intake will be provided here. They must submit the following documents with your UKZN application:
For South African Applicants
- Certified copy of your Identification Documents (ID)
- Certified copy of your Grade 12 exam results or
- Certified copy of your Grade 11 (if you’re currently doing Grade 12)
- Email address and Phone Number.
For International Applicants
- Certified copy of your Identification Document (ID) of your home country.
- Certified copy of your home country’s Passport Number.
- Study Visa in South Africa.
- English Proficiency.
- Medical Aid.
- Proof of IELTS at an overall score of 6 and TOEFL at an average score of 80–104 for Undergraduate programs.
- Copy of the University of KwaZulu-Natal English Language Programme Test (if necessary).

University of KwaZulu-Natal Online Application Fee 2024
How much are the application fees for the 2024 intake at UKZN? South African applicants must pay an R120 non-refundable fee, while foreign or international applicants must pay R250. Only manual applications are subject to this fee.
The online application is free. This means that South African or international students who apply online at www.ukzn.ac.za or www.cao.ac.za will not be charged a fee.

Important Things to Note About UKZN Admission 2024
- Inconsistency in the name or picture on registration slip is not acceptable to the university and may lead to disqualification of affected candidates.
- Candidates’ names must match their ‘A’ or ‘O’ Level certificates and other registration documents.
- Candidates must be sixteen (16) years old or older to take part in the exercise.
- A change in the program after they have submitted the application forms will NOT be permitted.
- Candidates must use their own valid personal telephone (GSM) numbers and email addresses to register.
- Applicants must ensure that they post application forms early enough so that they arrive before the submission deadline, as forms received after the deadline will not be processed.
- Because registration is done online, candidates are not required to be physically present on the university campus but are encouraged to do so from any location.
