UKZN NSFAS Online Application Procedure–How to Apply

You must finish the online application form in order to submit an NSFAS grant application. After filling out the form, you must send it along with the supporting documents.

If you meet the initial eligibility requirements, they will send the application to the institution of your choice for additional review. They will evaluate your application and they will communicate the results to you. 

If they accept your application, sign a loan agreement. The terms and conditions of your loan, including the repayment schedule, will be outlined in this agreement. They will deposit immediately the loan proceeds into your bank account after you have completed the loan agreement. 

  • Step 1: Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
  • Step 2: Create a myNSFAS account
  • Step 3: Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen
  • Step 4: Upload required supporting documents where applicable
  • Step 5: Click on ‘Submit’

How Much is the UKZN NSFAS Allowance?

NSFAS which stands for The National Student Financial Aid Scheme is a South African government initiative that offers financial help to students who come from households with a combined annual income of less than R350,000.

At the University of Cape Town (UCT), NSFAS-funded students receive a basic allowance of R3 000 per month, which should cover their living expenses. In addition, NSFAS pays for students’ tuition and residence fees and provides a book allowance of R500 per year.

UKZN NSFAS Allocation Requirements

Register for a full-time undergraduate course at a public university or TVET college

Have a valid South African ID number

How to Check myNSFAS Status at UKZN

You must sign into your NSFAS account in order to verify your NSFAS status. You will see whether you have received funding after logging in.
