Funza Lushaka Requirements and Eligibility
To apply for the funza bursary online, you must meet the following minimum entry requirements:
1. South African citizen
2. Good academic performance
3. Graduates who have already been accepted to an accredited public university and want to complete a teaching degree or become teachers (Postgraduate Certificate in Education).

For First-Year University Students
1. Admission to bachelor’s degree studies requires a matric/Grade 12 pass.
2. Minimum matric level 4 rating in the subject in which the applicant will specialize to teach.
3. For students planning to specialize in the Foundation Phase, a pass in Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy at the Grade 12 level and a minimum level 4 pass in the Home Language are required.
4. Average of at least 50% for students who completed their matriculation before 2008, when Mathematics was not required.
5. For students who do not have these subjects at matric level and wish to specialize in the teaching of Technology subjects, including CAT, a level 4 pass in Mathematics is required.
For New Applicants Already at University
1. All modules studied in the previous/most recent year of study at the Higher Education Institution were passed.
2. A minimum of 55% average across all modules studied in the previous/most recent year of study at a Higher Education Institution.
3. Minimum of 55% in modules studied relevant to the priority area of teaching specialization in the previous/most recent year of university study
For New Applicants Enrolling for PGCE:
1. To be admitted to a PGCE program, you must have completed a recognized qualification.
2. For a PGCE in Foundation Phase Teaching, you must have majored in Psychology and an African language.
3. At the second-year level, you must have at least TWO recognized priority subjects.
4. Modules in the identified priority subjects must be adequate.
For Existing Bursary Holders:
1. Passed at least two-thirds, or 66.6%, of all subject modules studied in the previous/most recent year of university study
2. Passed at least two-thirds of the priority subject area modules studied in the previous/most recent year of study at the Higher Education Institution (66.6%).
3. They approved the priority subject.
4. You must move on to the next level/year of study.
5. A minimum of 50% average across all subject modules is required.
