Principal – Western Cape

SPECIFICATION     A small school providing quality childcare and educare services is looking for a well-experienced Principal. Responsible for consulting, managing, assisting, training, and providing instructional leadership and support to staff and children at the educare. Provides service to oversee the smooth running of Educare and to ensure that a high standard of child care and education is maintained at all times.

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   Professionalism:

  • Be a team player who establishes positive, respectful and professional relationships with children, parents, colleagues and the childcare community.
  • Support and uphold Educare policies and philosophy to parents, co-workers and the community. Ensure staff understands and adheres to school policies, procedures and philosophy.
  • Maintain confidentiality about issues regarding staff members, children, families, LDE management.
  • Show respect for individual differences including learning styles, cultural differences, point of views, and individual preferences.
  • Model conflict resolution by communicating directly with individuals involved and collaborating to develop solutions.
  • Continue professional growth by attending courses, and workshops, asking for feedback, and reading professional literature.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ages and stages of development. Demonstrate flexibility and openness to new ideas in child care practices, and develop implementation plans.
  • Deliver constructive feedback to others that develops them as individuals i.e., assistants and teachers or anyone employed by the education company

  • Direct and co-ordinates academic and non-academic activities and programs for the children attending the Educare
  • Participate in recruitment and the orientation of new staff members.
  • Assist the Owner in planning daily staffing schedules.
  • Maintain operational records i.e., attendance register, sick leave register etc and give info to Owner.
  • Maintain regulatory or compliance documentation.
  • Direct organizational operations, projects, or services.
  • Together with the Owner, develops organizational policies or programs.
  • Develop educational goals, standards, policies, or procedures alongside the Owner.
  • Assists in teacher/classroom observations and collaborates with the owner to develop action plans.
  • Together with the Owner, evaluates classroom curriculum and environment to ensure that it meets the standards and guidelines as set out by the Early Childhood Development Guidelines and ensures that it supports children’s spiritual, physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development.
  • Sets educational standards and goals and help establish policies, procedures, and programs to carry them out.
  • Prepare and maintain attendance, activity, planning, accounting, or personnel reports and records for officials and agencies, or direct preparation and maintenance activities.
  • Plan’s Holiday programmes.
  • Monitor students’ progress and provide students and teachers with assistance in resolving any problems.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of teachers and Assistants.
  • Ensure Teachers and staff work to the standards set out by the educator. These include but are not limited to observing lessons, assisting and guiding teachers with lesson planning and development, as well as helping develop classroom teaching resources, classroom management, etc.
  • Assist and guide teachers with finalizing assessments and progress reports prior to being sent to parents,
  • Assists and provides support for teachers who are struggling with “challenging children.”
  • Trains teachers and assistants where needed ie planning lessons as well as executing lesson plans successfully, classroom management, dealing with difficult behaviors
  • Assumes teacher role if a teacher/assistant is absent or ill.
  • Ensuring a high standard of education is being maintained by all teaching staff inclusive of assistants in turn ensures that the children receive the best possible early childhood education and ensuring that children meet their developmental milestones.
  • Ensure all staff is following the Educare Discipline Policy and performing all duties and responsibilities outlined in their job descriptions.
  • Confer with staff to discuss educational activities and policies and students’ behavioral or learning problems.
  • Provide support and resources for staff on program development; assist in guiding and
  • supervising staff through the process of communicating sensitive issues to parents and locating appropriate services for referral.
  • Support and sustain the positive morale of the staff. Assist in planning team-building opportunities for staff members. Participate and assist in planning center meetings, events, and training sessions.


Monthly Salary: R12000 – R16000
