Preparation To Fold a Button Down
To start, choose a clean shirt you’ve washed. Remove your clothing from the dryer as soon as it’s finished drying to avoid wrinkles. Eliminate any wrinkles from the shirt by ironing it before folding.
Then, the next step is to locate a clean, flat, and dry work surface. In the absence of that, a clean towel laid down on the floor is perfect.
Button up the Front Buttons
Your button-down shirt folds will stay tight and wrinkle-free if you fasten up its front buttons. Additionally, don’t forget to button up the shirt’s neck and cuffs.
Make it Smooth
Place the shirt face-down on the smooth surface after shaking it to remove necessary dirt. Then, to further smooth the fabric, rub your hands over it repetitively till you’re satisfied.
Fold the Shirt
Fold the right forearm over the shirt’s back. Ensure the cuff meets the seam on the left shoulder. Do the same to the left forearm as well. You can rub your hands over it again to make it’s very smooth.
An Exaggerated “V”
Fold the right-hand side of the shirt toward the center, repeat that on the left. It’s a good idea to aim for the rear pleat if your dress shirt has one.
By now, your shirt should boast of a “V” shape style on the back. Remove extra wrinkles by separating the shoulders and tails.
Shorter Button Down
Bring the button-down shirt’s tail up to the collar to lengthen the fold. Next, fold the shirt in half lengthwise one more time to achieve the desired result: a shorter shirt.
